Many thanks .. that worked fine .. :) My problem was that I had not previously tried a terminal session, had only used the notebook interface, in FireFox...so I was looking to start a command line session out of the browser, instead of the server... We old folks get confused easily Again..th

I have found that the public server at UW is often but unpredictably unresponsive. This is over a period of months. Usually works best from MA in the AM and gets worse as the day goes on. I have always assumed it is overloaded, and no longer use it as a computing platform. I could be wrong. Ru
