What does "70 mb over 200" mean?
(nit: mb = milli-bit; MB = mega-byte)
The "u" option only means "update," not resume.
"man cp" is your friend.

As y'all have noted, 5888 / 256 = 23. That is rsync code for "could
not open all selected files for transfer." And, yes, th

Code 35 is the highest code value I could find.
How should code 5888 be interpreted?

sure there was a way to prevent that
from happening.
Is there a way to use rsync to set the timestamps of the
destination's file (and directories) to the source's timestamps? I do
not wish to copy any files. All that needs to match is the filename,
new or deleted files are ignored.

Recently I have had the need to actually synchronize the files
between two data stores. That is, whichever data store has the newest
timestamp updates the other data store.
What are some recommended ways for using rsync to synchronize two
data stores?

volume running an rsync daemon.
When this problem occurred on an os/2 server, the source volume was a
native JFS drive, and the target was the CIFS-mounted NAS volume (before
I enabled the daemon on the NAS device).
