I'm very interested in this...
My question(s) are why did you have to install a minimal system?
Could you have just booted up with network and rsync and just rsynced to a
freshly paritioned/formatted disk?
What command did you use (to clarify) to make the origal rsync's of your
disk, and what w

Hi everyone, again. My question today is, how can i replace my development
boxs' local OS with a resynced version of the production OS (which currently
has it's home on the dev box)?
Say, for example (this is really how things are), I have production server
and a development box, and i'd like
That's actaully a good idea! and sooo simple. right? Just sync (backup) the
important and functional data... not the whole OS..because EVERYONE has the
original copy of the windows software used when the software was
installed Which all that can then be restored if need be. DUH! and the

I mount the windows (98,ME,NT,2000, XP, ECT!) box with samba and go BOOM!
rsync that baby from localhost:/mnt/win2000 or where ever the smbfs lies...
Watch out for pagefile.sys (i think!)... it's won't copy. (let me know about
any other's)
Now, can you think of a way to sync the win 2000 O

would also not be getting the registry? Do you happen to know of any other
'important system files" thought probably are not being synced?
Thanks,

I was just wondering what it would take for me to do a full "ghost" like
restore of windows 2000?

onto a remote server.
I'm not sure what else someone might need to know in order to help
me...Please :-)

My name is Chris, Hi!
I've got rsync being called from a perl script that is called by cron (or for
that matter, by hand) and when I 'rsync' a locally mounted samba filesystem
(eg. to /mnt/smbfs), it successfully syncs the smbfs to the destination
directory, but without reason hangs... and take
