Following up on this thread, the (cosmetic) patch at
http://www.catnook.com/patches/rsync-testsuite.patch
replaces all occurrences of $rsync_bin in the testsuite with $RSYNC, for
consistency's sake (I prefer uppercase names for {ex,im}ported variables in
scripts). I would like to commit this
I mount the windows (98,ME,NT,2000, XP, ECT!) box with samba and go BOOM!
rsync that baby from localhost:/mnt/win2000 or where ever the smbfs lies...
Watch out for pagefile.sys (i think!)... it's won't copy. (let me know about
any other's)

I use a win2k<->win2k rsync with daemon, and that
patch makes a *big* difference! Especially the file
list transfer and syncing big files with small changes
goes a lot faster with the patch. Unfortunatly the
rsync deadlocks after all the files have been
transferred, so that needs to be fixed first

I (unfortunately) have this setup--rsynching FreeBSD boxes to a Windows
2000 machine. The Win2k box is my Veritas BackupExec server, and I
don't have a local tape drive for the BSDs.
I was unsuccessful getting either rsync or sshd to work as services
under cygwin/cygrunsrv, but thanks
