Thanks for your help, it has half worked, try this on for size.   If I run rsync direct from the console, it now runs fine (didnt before) If I run rsync from my office (TTSSH Client, NT4) it still hangs / stops / exits the transfer. Perhaps I will have to move my office   :) or the server   I
