Picking up on Bobs point.
As an author of a commercial program I dont see the world coming to an
end. In this melodramatic discussion the idea of encouraging young
scientists to write the type of software that the community is demanding
is fraught with difficulty. Unless of course a scientist c
I would only add that much of the software development is done as a "hobby" by many
us, i.e. with only grudging institutional support.

I don't know that machine but isn't it so that nowadys structures can be
solved with "home lab instruments". The name of the instrument doesn't give
enough information to jugde whether solution is true or not. The usual
advice about checking the interatomic distances is valid for any structure
Dear all,
How reliable is a structure refinement (including atomic positions and
temperature factors) from an X-ray diffraction pattern recorded on a
Rigaku D/max X-ray powder diffractometer?
Thank you very much!

You mean, the world will stop ? Hugo Rietveld himself retired
quite some tears ago (but then he wasn't American :-)

Dear Larry,
I can only say: do not worry. There is a lot of very good
crystallographers who are also very good programers among the young
generation. The evolution will not stop!
