setting up pop3 server

Does anyone know the steps for setting up a pop3 server using pop3d? I have edited the inetd.conf file, I can telnet to port 110 fine, even login fine. I do a tail -f /var/log/maillog and it looks like the mail gets in fine ... but when I logon with kmail to the server, no messages on the server..
