[RE-wrenches] Hydro Off-grid Battery Sizing

2017-04-26 Thread Matt Sherald
Good morning! I went to bed wondering if the off-grid battery bank sizing rules that I use for PV systems hold true for hydro-based systems. I woke up and I was still mulling this over. My battery bank sizing standard is to use the method outlined in the SEI Photovoltaics Manual. I would presum

Hi Matt, Short answer is yes, 2 days of autonomy should be fine. I am presently operating our off rid PV/hydro system at well under two days of autonomy. I just crunched some numbers for our situation here in Vermont. Off grid system that is now 4.3kW PV and with a Harris micro-hydro turb

Matt: I have a question for you: I have often considered mounting Class T fuses directly to a bus bar as you have done. Are you ever worried about physical strain on the fuse itself without a fuse holder? Thanks again for all of your input. William Miller Lic 773985 millersolar.com 805-438-

Hi Folks, I was called by a customer with the complaint of the MS4024 inverter shut down and ME-ARC controller and Trimetric acting strange, intermittent and even even showing 29 volts at times. The batteries are four 2.5 year old US battery L16XC 380 AH and checking each battery showed one at

I am scheduled to be going out to a site in a couple of weeks that is experiencing frequent shutdowns and I've offered to investigate why the shutdowns are occurring. The site is 208 3 phase with six Sunny Islands and Aquion batteries. I've got SMA tech support aware in case I need to talk with

Hate to be an ass, but look in the mirror! There is NONE! The battery set point voltage w/ the SMA Aquion BM200 is ~57.5V UNLIKE all the other inverter manu’s suggestions of 59.8 V. Contact me off list if you want additional thoughts. TUMP > On Apr 26, 2017, at 12:31 PM, ga...@solarindependence.c

Wallace, I installed some Interstate RE batteries (green case) L16's that supposedly are made by US Battery. As with Trojan and other High Capacity L16's I had several cell failures. I have always felt that gleaning more amp hours from the same box must lead to cutting corners on robustness.

Here's a thermal image from a recent inspection of 2 v Trojan L16REs. Notice the normal batteries above and below, they are cool blue, running around 75F 2 of the cells of the center battery are obviously shorted. Cell voltage was 2.07 v compared to about 2.3 to 2.4 v for surrounding good b

[RE-wrenches] Well pump grounding question

Hey everyone, I'm replacing my old DC 24V shurflo well pump with a new Grundfos 15 SQ05-110. It's the 120V AC model. Question: The Shurflo required 2 wire cable with no ground, the Grundfos has black/white/green. Can anyone think of a good reason why I should replace 100' of expensive submersible

Maybe I should clarify here that the wire type switches at the well head, and that is the point at which the metal well casing is bonded to the EGC running with the current carrying conductors to the supply circuit 20A breaker. On Wed, Apr 26, 2017 at 7:09 PM, Rebekah Hren wrote: > Hey everyone,

Greetings William, Good point. This is something I always take into consideration. I have used Class T Fuses in many situations with and without their fuse holders. In the case of the installation shown in my custom DC Bus System pictures the wire/cable type and wire management avoid putting to
