Is it possible for you to add a 30A contactor with 120Vac coil (which connects
to the grid) to create the ground to neutral bond via the normally closed
contacts?

Hoo boyI've got a tough one here. Trying to troubleshoot an array
ground fault with a system that has 14 strings mounted on a metal roof with
the whole roof and metal framed building being common to ground.
Can anyone recommend any diagnostic tools out there to troubleshoot and

Seperate the strings, test the voltage to ground, that will tell you the
faulty string and where the fault is. The voltage to ground divided by the
Voc should tell you how many strings away the fault is.

This should be fairly straightforward. If the whole roof is truly grounded,
you have nothing to worry about. If it is not well grounded, then you have
cause for pause.

Generally with wire runs being short from battery to inverter (in this case SMA
SI) we prefer the largest conductor possible.
Inverters don't like being choked off by wire loss when big loads or
significant charging needs the amps.

I second Chris' suggestion. Disconnect all strings at the combiner. Check
VOC PV+ to ground, and PV- to ground on each string, and PV+ to PV-. This
should point you to the faulty string. If the string consists of 10
modules, each with VOC of 30 volts then you should see +300V from PV+ t
