Hi wrenches,
I am looking for a relatively low cost solar pumping system. The system
has about 10 ft of elevation head and he just wants to water his garden
which is about 200' away horizontally. It can either be a submersible pump
or a pump that can produce some suction. Any experience with th
Mac,
It probably doesn't pass the low cost hurdle, but this sounds like the
perfect situation for a Dankoff Suncentric pump.

Shurflo 9300 too expensive at $800+? It can be set up to run on a

Hi Mac;
I would be looking at something like the Shurflo 2088 series and a
Linear Current Booster, with a check valve on the intake if you can't
mount the pump below the water level. 75-100 watts of PV should
perform just fine with that.

Hi Wrenches,
Let me be a little more specific about this site. Potential client has a
pond that he would like to move water to his garden. This pond is about 10

away. He has a little shack about 20' from the pond that we wil
Mac,
Sounds like the Shurflo 2088 series pump that Dan mentioned would
fit the bill.
We've used them PV direct with good results, just be sure to use a
PV module
with a Voc that's not too high for the pump.

Yes, with the additional details you provided I would look seriously
at the Shurflo 2088.
An LCB will allow it to work on overcast days.

Dear Richard,
I'll miss you. I still got that 1961 newspaper article with your picture

Mac,
That helps. My best suggestion would be a Dankoff Solar Slowpump.
The SunCentric solar centrifugal would be ideal if the volume of
water desired was greater. Mount the pump close to and above the
highest pond surface level, and use the optional 30" filter and foot
Mac,
The cheapest pump to do this job is the LVM Amazon, which is made in England,
will pump 3 or 4 GPM at 10 feet of head and costs around $70. They are made to
run on a 12 volt battery and cannot handle more than 14 volts, so a small
battery and controller are required. You can use a low cos
Dave and Mac,
The 2088 would certainly work as well if the desired flow is low
enough. They are rated 2.8 gpm at open discharge, but that goes down
quickly to under 2 gpm at pressure. Your app is close to open
discharge, but running 12V array direct would likely reduce o

Jay,
I wouldn't. Years ago Windy offered a line of Rule bilge pump kits
with modules for array-direct fountain and landscaping apps. He
called it the SunDeLight, in Windy's typically cute naming fashion.
We sold a few. He gave up after a few years. The pumps are mostly

Hi Ron,
In this case you may need to but ONLY if you are sure the battery has been
equalized to bring up the low cell. If the SG is rising during equalization,
keep going. From your statement "over time", it may just be that this cell has
been neglected.
The method would be to add electrolyte
