I've tested really old arrays that were done in the days before NEC
grounding requirements. No star washers, just nuts, bolts, lock
washers and washers. I've never seen significant resistance from one
end of an array to the other. This appears to be a solution to solve
a problem that never
HI All;
I just received an email from a company offering OSHA training for solar
installers. A good idea, but they claimed you need a 10 hr certification
just to work as a solar installer. I have never heard of this, so did I
install a couple of hundred systems illegally?

I'm stumped as to the best approach for a customer who wants a
non-grid-tied, batteryless PV-powered EV charging station. See
below, from one of our salespeople. Any ideas?
Thank you,

The 10-hour OSHA course is not (currently) a requirement for NABCEP's PV
Installer certification. However, the NABCEP PV Technical Sales
certification does require the 10 hour OSHA course as part of the
application requirements.
The UL Certified PV System Installer application requires
The current industry standards for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging
stations use either a standard 120Vac or 240Vac feeder. The EV has its
own internal charge regulator unique to the type and voltage of the
battery bank used.
To my knowledge, here is no EV manufacturer that has a DC charging

Hey Allan,
We did freestanding golf cart charger direct dc array to
charger controller with a direct coupler to the golf cart's
battery. Works just like an off grid system.
Could you do the same for a car? Bypassing or paralleling
the internal controls.

You're probably talking about a PV to 12V solution. The battery banks in
EVs are high voltage (to minimize I2R losses).
And I'm sure that "...bypassing or paralleling the internal controls..."
will result in a voiding of the EV warranty.

Hi Allan,
Off-grid batteryless EV charging? Perhaps if the EV battery was tapped to keep
the off-grid inverter awake, but that would void the vehicle warranty. I'm sure
you considered PV into Sunny Islands (or similar) with a small sealed battery
into Sunny Boys. I question if a person in SF wh
Allan,
We also did what Dana suggests (as did many PV and or EV wrenches). For us, the
idea morphed into www.solarelectricalvehicles.com Whether PV is on the vehicle
or somewhere else, tapping into the vehicle battery bank voids the vehicle
warranty.
