included silicon grease..being that these systems were installed more
than a couple years ago.I can't be certain this was done on these
systems...I will make sure that we don't overlook this step in the
future.In both
Use the silicone grease. It has saved me many a headache. Dry RJ-45
connections are always problematic after a few years if not kept in a
carefully controlled climate :-/

I too have sometimes but, not very often seen this in the field, usually
unplugging and re-plugging in the mate cable re-establishes (Re-Polls)
the connection and makes it work.
Do you know if the silicone grease was used during install? Outback does
include a packet of silicone

Interesting. A customer from Baja, on the Sea of Cortez has a similar problem
after 2 years trouble free. No ESD potential there. Rebooting the remote did
not help. Did Outback pant a time bomb!!

Have not seen that in Outback systems before, but have seen it in similar
setups. Never conclusively figured out what caused it, but as the 3-4 instances
all occurred in winter when humidity was very low and static discharge was
common, that could have caused the memory in the internal circuits
