I've been using the ASCO series 185 and you can get it either as "service
entrance" rated or not. Not sure on the nema 3r rating. But I know they
make custom units also.

The Kohler brand ATS will perform a contact closure when utility power fails
for a two wire start generator. it doesn't switch over until it senses the
generator ac is present.
Your Generac model may or may not be 2 wire start. The newer "smart" ones can
be converted with a generac adapter kit.

It's been a few years, but we've used Briggs & Stratton automatic transfer
switches on multiple projects with good results. Most of our projects were
with Sunny Islands. At least at the time, the transfer swtiches didn't
require any external control system to switch from grid to off grid:

Can anyone recommend a good 200A Nema3 auto transfer switch that does not
need to have any generator feedback (ie. Generac version which requires
signal from generator) to transfer. Basically looking for a dumb version
which transfers based on loss of grid voltage, and then reconnects
