"string two in conduit but string one outside of conduit, the inverter does

Maybe string two has a mild ground fault at the last module, positive side,
or at its internal diode. ???
Basically why can't string two operate in the conduit?

I used them one time and went back to rails.
It would have been prudent to build a thin plywood jig to match the PV you are
using.
The advantage of rails is that you have somewhere to attach wires, boxes (and
inverters).

My two cents:
"battery-based inverter w/ PV on the DC side via charge controllers"
Simply replace the GT inverter with a Xantrex 600V Charge Controller plus
the 48V Grid Interactive Inverter of your choice and added battery bank,

This is my favorite module to install for battery based installations.
This is the single most manufactured module that I can find. They all are
about 31.1 x 62.2 x D and have 35Vmp, 45Voc, etc. The Frame Thickness is the
only variable that I wish they would correct. Some are 35mm, 46mm or 50mm.
I second X-Flex. We have used it since day one with no issues from 6 Awg to
