FYI... Every [Midnite] SMA E-Panel comes with a shunt trip breaker. SMA requested this when they asked MidNite to design an E-Panel for them. You will need the battery disconnect module to go with each E-Panel though. The battery disconnect modules connect to the Birdhouse and to the shunt

Hey Steve, Yes I'm reading that code article closely and I think its open to interpretation. If you consider PV circuits to include the battery based inverters, you would need to include them in rapid shutdown. For some reason I thought it applied to all of the DC conductors, including the batt

Mac, Do you mean to ask for a way to shut down the Sunny Boys connected to the Multicluster box? Sunny Islands are not applicable to the rapid shutdown requirements. They are not PV. SMA America, LLC Steve Jefferson Service Line Supervisor 3925 Atherton Ave Rocklin, CA 95765 - 3714 U.S.A. Tel:

I completely agree with you and the "snail trails" will effect the performance sooner then later, and the manufactures a kicking the can down the road. We are also a small scale 42 watt to 110 watt module manufacture and cracks are something we avoid at all costs. Jerry On Fri, Jul 17, 2015 at 5:0

Hi Wrenches, I am working on a rapid shutdown design with an SMA multi-cluster box with 6 x 6048 Sunny Island Inverters, 2 per phase. I will be utilizing a Midnite system for some roof top combiners. Is there a way to shutdown the Sunny Islands via communication from the Midnite rapid shut down

Jerry Unfortunately snail trails are a clear indication of micro cracks that will in time open up and degrade the output of the module substantially. They may not have a performance problem yet , but give it time to show up! It usually takes awhile for the snail trail to appear, the micro cracks

boB - I am under the impression that a manufacturer module power output warranty is just that - a warranty to guarantee the power output at a certain minimum level unless a warranty exclusion occurred such as physical damage, incorrect installation, etc. So, if a module is producing zero power it

The reason behind this rule, going back through some history, was to reduce the possibility of a nail penetrating hidden conduit (conduit behind a wall). Since the conduit is exposed/visible, the chances of that action happening are small to none. So, the installer is saying that a literal inte
