Yeah, lots more choices out there in the 10+ to 30 kW rangeā¦.but pretty much
all of the larger capacity models only come at 480V.
Anyone know why? We have way more 120/208V applications here in Hawaii than
277/480.

Hi Eric,
Sounds like a bad control board.
Swap the inverter and you should be back in business.

Hi Ron, Alan, and everyone else...
There were good suggestions provided, so I didn't jump in. I was traveling
also, so got into this discussion late. But, I'm usually available (and
almost always willing) to provide whatever knowledge support I can for
Whisper products. Parts will be a problem,
If it's not in search mode, then it sounds like the relay it failing.
The SW5548 has two relays, on for grid and one for gen,
Does the delay happen using Grid and the Generator?

Eric,
Ray's suggestion to check the gennie is easy - disconnect the
generator's output to the inverter (probably not necessary, but
helps to isolate symptoms) and start the generator manually at the
gennie. If it shuts down, it's the gennie.

I was looking at a scratch pad note where I wrote 25 instead of 55...Yes, it is
a SW5548. Definitely not set to "Search"...it's in "On" mode. I've checked
error codes. No "Yes" messages. I am wondering about a firmware upgrade
although I have serious doubt that will clear up the problem.
I gues
Could be a couple of things...
Yes, this sounds like an SW4048... Not a 2548. A 2548 is black only weighs
about 60 pounds and doesn't do auto gen start or gen support.
Is this a white unit with a green stripe that 2.5 feet long and about 20 inches
tall? Right?
Does it have a Red or black han
Eric,
A Trace 2548 with automatic generator start? I don't believe there
ever was such a thing. I suspect that you're referring to either a
SW4048 or SW5548. If so, your first step is to check the error
codes, some of which are found in Menu Heading 2 (for

While the problems seem related, I'm guessing the gen set issue is a low
coolant or low oil condition. The generator has sensors that shut it
down if they don't see fluid (coolant, or oil) after a few seconds. The
symptoms fit that.
For the inverter, it is either fried or has some programming
I have encountered a Trace 2548 in seemingly good working condition. I was
called out to troubleshoot a Grid-tied, battery back-up system with the
following problem:
- Upon loss of grid power there is about a 5 second lapse (no power to house)
before the BB system engages. Power to the critical

Unfortunately I believe the Sunny Tripower is only good for 480 V
applications. I'm not aware of other 240 V 3-phase inverters on the market
(other than the Fronius). We run into a lot of 208 V 3-phase here in the
Bay Area and unfortunately can't use these cool new 3-phase inverters from

I completely agree about PV dedicated power centers & connections. I talked
with the homeowner about having the Envoy located in the detached garage
