Take it from someone in the trenches out here in the Aloha Stateyes, we have to jump through these hoops. The utilities here-HECO, MECO, HELCO and KIUC-vary as far as what they require regarding verification and documentation. It's been my experience that HECO and MECO are more lax whereas HE

HI Howie, I've seen someone use a single 4/0 fine stranded cable with a regular lug on the end of it. they then cut the top of the hole out to make in a sense a U shape. Each side of the U fit into each side of the 2 hole barrel connector on the SI. Super slick iI thought. I can send you a pic

Mark: Yes, Hawaii requires custom settings and they require the installer to certify the inverter has been programmed to those settings. We have a menu choice for Hawaii in our setup menus. If you have older product we can update them remotely once connected to the internet. Best Regards, John

So if the lug is the plate type with a screw through the middle, then wires can be inserted on both sides of the screw (using the correct wire size of course). I'm assuming this would apply to other brands (GE , Siemens) with that type of plate connector as well. Any other breakers out there

I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :) But seriously, I'd put myself up against most NABCEP certified solar installers when it comes to technical knowledge, design, safety, troubleshooting, etc. I generally wouldn't put myself up against those non-NABCEP folks with vastly more experience

We had the same request in NC by Duke Energy. The inverter mfg. says they can do it but it'd be outside of the values on the label that the inverter is listed to. I don't think Duke cares, but the AHJ may. Brian Typos courtesy of my iPhone. On Feb 4, 2013, at 6:44 PM, "Mark Frye" wrote: >

Also good to remember is that licensing is mandatory, but certification is voluntary. I can see where the NABCEP certification could help get your foot in the door in areas that do not require licensing but I'm sure that it will no

Folks, I was told that because the HI grid has poor frequency control, grid-tied inverters have to have their low frequency limit set to 57 Hz so they can ride out the worst low frequency events. I find it hard to believe that this has been done for every single inverter installed in HI.

Greetings wrenches; I just watched a video from Midnite Solar, where they avoided double lugging a breaker by using uninsulated ILSCO taps. I've used these taps before as well, but never felt it was an optimum solution, as it leaves quite a bit of uninsulated metal in close contact with the a

Ryan: Not sure what is in the manual now but... The lugs in the SI 5048U are dual 2/0. We had to use parallel AWG #1 because we kind of painted ourselves into a corner. The breaker in the SI ended up being 250 Amps, the conduit fitting was only 1.5" and the wire bending space was too small for
