Voltage drop with Magnum inverters has been an issue as it has with many
other off grid inverters.
That said, I doubt that you will ever get a Skystream to function correctly
off grid. You might get it to play nice if you hook it up to an Exeltec
inverter and have the inverter feed nothing else so
The ballasted idea is good, and I've also done what you are proposing
below, which is a hybrid ballasted/ anchored system. Epoxy is the best
anchor I've ever used, just make sure the hole is really clean before
putting in the glue.
Also I'd make the slab bigger to enhance the ballast effect.
Jay's post reminded me of another idea.
If the big load is a motor load, e.g. well pump, then a soft start circuit
might solve the problem.
A neighbor of mine has a Magnum and his 3/4 Hp pressure pump (installed against
my instructions by the brain dead well guy) turning on caused his flat scree
no experience with this, but led lights pretty much wipe out 2 meter operations.

Hi Howie,
You can set the diversion control of the FM-80 to SS relay mode which will PWM
the load, AC or DC
While I think this will take care of your problem you might have some flicker
while its PWM'ing if you are switching an AC load.
Another option is to use cascading smaller dump loads, w
I would try to see if you could get Skystream to widen their low voltage and
low frequency trip points as far as possible.
If this has already been done then an inverter change may be needed.

I have used Wedgebolts to attached to natural surfaces in the past.
Better than expanding lags/wedges because they don't "split out" in softer
materials.
I would use the Red Brick values as a start and contact the manufacturer for
guideance.

I've seen those dips in output voltage from almost all off grid
inverters under load. They either dip the voltage or worse (like an
old Trace SW5548) just shut off. Outback for instance just has a
constant 50 amp output for 5 sec, and lets the voltage dip a bunch on
surges. The idea is to to
One word: Ballasted.

Hi Wrenches,
I am working on a project right now where we need to figure out how to put
an 8kW ground mount on a property that is covered with a sandstone slab.
Does anyone have any advice on how to do this? My preliminary idea is to
drill down about 12" and epoxy rebar into the sandstone, and p
Hi All,
I am trying to help my brother-in-law figure out if he can continue using
his Magnum MS 4448 AE in his now off-grid home in Nova Scotia which we
installed about 3 years ago as at the time a battery backup inverter. I
would preface the following with the information that he is a very

Mr Friends,
Does anyone have experience with Enphase 215 inverters on a roof

the monitoring using data over power lines? How about a string inverter?
Thanks and Happy Holidays to all.
