We had a similar problem with a large bank of IBE 2 volt cells. The
batteries had to be removed the same day they were installed and then
reinstalled the next day. They sat outside for one night. The flags
acquired an invisible but insidious corrosion that caused problems getting

Call Dane Forsberg at SMA. Very knowledgeable. He helped me recently go
through all the settings on my 8kw SI system.

Hi wrenches,
About 2 months ago, we installed an off-grid Sunny Island System. Here are
the specs:
8.82 kW PV
SunnyBoy 8000
2 x Sunny Island 5048 Inverters
2490 Ahr SolarOne HUP batteries at 48V
30 kW Cummins Propane Generator
We are having an issue that I am having a hard time figuring out. W

It seems that I don't see much talk or interest in that.
Thanks !

I missed the AC part when I answered you question. I think an off the shelf AC
diversion control would be a good idea. I gave used outback and midnite
controllers by powering a solidstate relay with the aux output to divert AC.

Coleman Air makes a 100 amp diversion control. The Morningstar Tristar and

Decided to check clearance in the back of the switch and curiously found a
hairline crack in the casing. Decided to check for continuity between the "1"

As always, thanks
Wrenches,
I wrote back to Bill with the person at SMA who gave the talk and it is
possible that I may have been mistaken about the ship date for AFCI-enabled
Sunny Boys. Transformerless Sunny Boy US-series units are on the way soon
too and I may have gotten mixed up. To be sure, don't take my wo

Hi David and Rebecca -
We're still in the 2008 code cycle here in California so AFCI hasn't become
an issue yet. I just listened to a webinar by SMA last week and I believe
that their AFCI Sunny Boys wont' be shipping for at least a couple of
months.
Rebecca, have you already installed this s
HI Dan,
The Radian from outback can be rebuilt.
I don't know if they are sending out replacement guts or just replacement
inverter modules however.

Hi there,
Is there an 'off the shelf' low cost product that will divert exported
energy to a load?
I have put thought into this and have a simple solution but need to know if
it is worth while marketing it.

I like Outback because I can rebuild them on the wall. I'd be eying two VFX3648 (Or VFX7248 is what they used to call them). I suspect Magnum is similar, but I really haven't seen that many around. As for starting motor loads, NEC article 430 has gobs of info on projecting starting currents and si
