Good open questionhere's what I think about this problem
We all understand that electrical components have very clear performance
versus cost trade-offs.
I think extreme outside conditions, like those below -40°C temps, simply
lend themselves to a string/central PV topology
The post by Dan from Exeltech got my mind on this.
The warranty is what always makes me stay away from inverters outside. It sure
would make some of my installs easier if I could mount the inverter outside.
Any other inverter brands outside with no problems?

Seems to be a brushless unit and its power quality has gotten bad after
someone flipped the series / parallel switch for a few seconds while it was
running.

insulated back to the panel for the winter months to decrease the

I was able to edit two parameters guided by Xantrex to make the issue go
away. You will need the Xantrex Configuration Tool and the tech note /
software tool from Xantrex. But otherwise its pretty simple to do. Of
course, a firmware update will make the incompatibility go away easier.

The Kohler RES series generator has a bug when used in conjunction with the
Xantrex XW inverters: The power waveform of the RES generators is
distorted under no-load conditions. The result is that the XW will not
connect. A fix is pending but a new firmware release date is not yet

The Olympian brand are made by Generac for caterpillar.
Anything under 20KW will be residential and will be designed for short
