By the time I get to the end of a thread my input has been injected by
others but here are a couple of things:
Thermal mass of the surrounding building is best for regulating battery
temps.
Consider a vented "Hood" instead of a box.
For ventilation purposes, all Lead Acid batteries should be
Hello Glenn,
The UL1741 standard uses IEEE1547 which gives the following;

Does anyone have the text of UL 1741 and can tell me how much time is
allowed for disconnect when loss of utility grid happens?
I am thinking between 2-5 cycles?
Thanks,
Glenn Burt

For those of in need of that double insulated #10 g. wire to go from the
module string to the nearest j-box or combiner, I've found as U.S.
manufacturer in Texas-Falcon Wire-that makes it and it's UL listed. Of
course, until mod manufacturers start cranking out their products with

That or equal is mostly what we have used, but a discussion came up recently
about how the Polaris were “better” (and a lot more expensive), so trying to
find out if they are worth the extra expense.

We use Burndy Unitap clear connectors. Not because of price but because Summit

I can tie this for utter foolishness. Early in my off-grid days, a friend
and I split a load of telephone company batteries. His hydro system would
regularly boil off electrolyte in its season, so he checked fluid levels
a lot.
One time he left his flashlight in his cabin. But being a safety-meet

I had a very well vented automotive battery
explode. The cause was apparently an internal
short. The explosion broke the case and
splattered me with acid. I was lucky and not
injured. I think the internal short rapidly
vaporized the acid and the explosion was essentially due to steam press
I think you are bringing up a very important point here – nearly all of the
battery related explosions we have seen or heard of, and nearly all the ones
described in all the various posts here recently have one common theme – that
the BATTERY exploded. Some or most were probably related to Hydro

These descriptions of battery explosions certainly drive home the
point that one should always always wear protective gear when working
on batteries.
I have a story that may take the prize for the most foolish behavior
yet described (thankfully I wasn't involved until the cleanup stage).
