Hi Dana, "Sounds like" you have a lower-bus rated at 100A being fed by a 60A breaker... Yes? If so, technically speaking but not necessarily the right thing to do, you have a SWEET SETUP! In 690.64 terms, you are legally allowed 120A to feed that bus. Which converts to a maximum 60A PV intercon

Doug, In an ac coupled system with a Sunny Boy connected to the FX inverter's output or to the critical loads panel, a grid connected Outback inverter will work the same as it usually does - it is not affected by the Sunny Boy other than by the rise of the ac feeder voltage. Just be careful t

Howie, In an ac coupled system with Outback inverters you could use a diversion controller such as a Morningstar Tristar 60 on the dc side. That would allow using an ac coupled system and a nicely controlled finish charge for the batteries too. Since there is already a MX60 to do the finish

If you backfeed a new breaker added to the top bus, it is a supply-side connection. The bus bars in the top are exposed to the full fault current capacity of the utility drop. You wouldn't be limited by the 120% exception. Or you can backfeed a breaker on the bottom bus, and then it is a load-si

Dana: I assume from your description that the top buss is lug fed. One would need to know the value of overcurrent protection feeding those lugs to perform the calculations. Take the rating of a given buss (or feeder) and multiply by 120%. Subtract from the result the value of the breaker

Hi everyone, I'm working on two systems for homes that have the old style breaker panels with no single main breaker. Instead, they have six breakers in the upper part of the panel each labeled "main breaker," which satisfies the six disconnect rule. The bus bar is split, with one of the six upper

We have done several of these systems with various inverter combinations. We used a voltage activated relay in the stone age to switch inverters between battery banks and the grid before the Trace SW came on scene. This little switch opens and closes a relay based on user adjustable set points.
