So -- how do firefighters stay safe on roofs? We are not usually tied
off, and are instead clinging to roof ladders, at least on the steep
pitches.
Darryl Thayer got it right in his last post--- training. Practice,
practice, practice. We climbed roof ladders during Firefighter Academy

Unfortunately too common, from my experience. I've discussed the importance of
safety as we continue to build us as a well respected industry. All too often
on to deaf ears. Hope we can value each person's health and learn from other
industries' injuries instead of reinventing that wheel befo
Why is re-wrenches trying to protect Solar City? The installer was shocked,
fell, and died! I am shocked that none of the media reports have named them?

The Solar City installer was first shocked with 400 VDC, and then fell to his

HI All,
A question.
How many employees would it take to operate ( not build) a 100mw PV power plant
and yes I would like to include guards, gardeners etc.
The question arises from a discussion I had with someone who works around a
Nuclear plant.
He mentioned it takes around 2500 full time peop
The two instances are not the same. The skylight accident happened
previous to April 2010, and the company is listed in the accident
report , but I don't recall the name. They are a large CA electrical
contractor.

Marco,
The company was purposely not identified. I believe the young man fell
through a skylight while moving equipment during construction. Much more
likely way to die since most people assume a skylight will bear their weight
if they fall against it. Edge of roof falls definitely occur, but s
On the plus side, roofs under PV arrays receive less ultraviolet radiation.
On the negative side, some roofing shaded by PV arrays experience mold

Wrenches,
Building fires are serious stuff. The Northbrook UL labs fire tests are
awesome. Imagine a gale-force wind driving a wide, roaring natural gas flame
at the roof eave to see how far the fire will spread as it consumes the
roofing material and anything else combustible. Tremco has a ph

In Minnesota we have had three falls from roofs that I know of. All three of
these falls have had serious results. All life changing for the worker.
Months in the hospital, to walking problems, hand and arm problems and brain
injuries. Two were no ladder tie off issues and the third triped
