REC Group in Norway has taken the high road in dealing with the junction

Hey Larry,
Have you worked with the Techno Metal Posts (TPM) for 6" SCH40 (orSCH80) top
of pole mounts? I have heard of the TMP's being used for multi pole ground
mounts and my Vermont TMP franchisee wants to do some single pipe mast DPW
top of pole mounts with his TM Post.

Thanks for posting this, Marco.
Somehow I missed this story last week. Funny in an ironic, twisted way. A
friend of ours was in town visiting this afternoon. He mentioned that he was
considering buying some REC modules out of Norway... Good deal on them, etc.

Just to add to the battery confusion, I have found the Rolls last longer and
behave better is charged slowly. I have some very fast charging AGMs I have
only had on set of gels.

Unistrut makes a telescoping set called get this telestrut.
Pretty close to what you are discussing.
But does anybody know if Powerstrut makes the same?
My supplier only carries Powerstrut?

I would recommend the Morningstar controller. There is a model (I don't
have the catalog here) with a good timer, and LVD and good environmental
controls, and electronic circuit protection.

Hello Wrenches,
I have an 12-volt, 1.2-amp outdoor light that I want to power with PV and a
gel cell battery. What approx. 5 amp charge controller do you recommend? It
would be nice to also have a low-voltage cut-out and a timer. Thanks in

Hello Larry and others..
The slow charge rate for the Gel's you mention confuses me further. I had
just finished researching this last week when I was in Sierra Leone, where
we were setting up the DEKA 225AH Gel batteries on an Outback system, and
checking the charge rate.

Hi Walt,
You are right! Gel batteries will give many more cycles than AGM's.
And they cost more so you you are not getting an equivalent value by
them suppling AGM's.
A very big downside to Gel is if you accidently over-voltage the
battery, you can permanently ruin it. I have seen many ba
Hello,
Why do you say that AGM batteries are a better choice?
I have been reading about the differences, and all I see (comparing DEKA Gel
versus DEKA AGM is that the cycle life of the AGM (at 50% DOD) is 500 cycles
versus 1000 cycles for the Gel.

But in Africa, once it fails it may be very hard to find a technician who

Hello Everyone,
The SB50's maximum input voltage spec it 57VDC. This should be considered an
absolute maximum above which the controller will be damaged in a manner not
covered by warranty. Our recommendation is to not apply a total Voc at STC of
more than 57V/1.25= 45.6V. There are transient
Yes, that is one I had forgotten about. The 100/20 and 100/30 have a max Voc of

I would look at using the Blue Sky 6024H in 36v input, 24v output mode. The
physical dimensions are identical, and it can use the same temperature

The AGM batteries are probably a better choice than gelled, but the fact that
some are down to 5 volts is the real problem.
A typical AGM will lose around 1-2% charge per month at 25 degrees C. If they
are at 5 volts, that indicates that they either sat around for over a year

Hello all,
Thanks to all of your responses, and particularly Rick’s confirmation of the
appropriate ranges for the SB50, it has become clear that these panels can not
be made to work with the SB50, and that the SB50 was the wrong choice for these
pre-fabricated systems, or perhaps better phr
