I'm quite the fan out Moustache bars. They're great off-road as they let you put your hands & weight forward while giving you that good braking position. Mimics the position regular straight or riser MTB bars offer. While I enjoyed Albas off-road as well, my hands got a lot more tired having to ho

For me (YMMV) the length between drops and Albas didn't change. What did change was height. I went from a 100mm Tech Dlx stem at seat height to a plain Technomic to get the added height above the seat. Cheers, David "it isn't a contest. Just enjoy the ride." - Seth Vidal On Sun, Mar 30, 2014

Handling is great on the trails, but you're going to be limited in tire size to around 40mm+/-. Also the top tube is horizontal, which makes rapid unplanned dismounts that happen on trails potentially eventful. I bet you would like something like the first generation Salsa El Mariachi that has an

They all sound like well thought out changes for a more dirt-oriented bike. If you go w/ the Bullmoose type bar, you're going to be less upright, and a B17 should work really well. You can slide back on those pretty easily. I found that I still wanted a bit more mobility on the saddle, and actually

Both are great tires, Mathew. I love Paselas though, and think the 35mm ones are the perfect tire. They roll pretty fast for such inexpensive tires, and the extra bit of float is definitely nicer if you get into any soft sand (you didn't mention where you would be riding them). Puncture protection
