[RBW] Re: Paul brakes, redux - Motolite clearance?

2014-08-12 Thread Tom Harrop
Hi Jay, I use V-brakes with 60 mm tyres and fenders (and a front rack). It works great. Mine are Shimano BR-T780, which have 107 mm arms. Motolites are 104 mm so it *should* work with 50 mm tyres—depending on canti stud and fender placement, I guess. But that's just, like, my opinion. Tom --

I find FDs a mild pain. I guess there are quite a few variables. I use the Sugino triple from Riv and an 8-speed cassette (i.e. wider chain), with a 107 mm BB so I have a narrow-ish front chainline. I initially used that Microshift FD that Riv used to sell (R538?) but the cage would bump into t

If opening up wide is important I have had good luck with the CX70s. On the CX70s the pads are offset from the brake arm by a centimetre or two, allowing normal "road" pads to clear the fork/seatstay. This is not the case on Tektro CR720s. On my two Riv bikes, the same brake pads didn't clear th
