Leah, it seems to me the way to go is pick up a nice looking, reliable, and
tough seatpost like a Thomson Elite setback seatpost like this one in
26.8mm diameter. They may make it is silver also but black is all I've ever
used. On sale at $85.79 below, and I have NO involvement with the seller.

those handlebarsbars, there is always the Thompson Elite straight seatpost
in 26.8 x 330 in BLACK below, also listed on sale at $85.79 :-)

Hi, a 54 cm frame is already pretty small, but adding a shorter stem will
make it feel like a 52 cm at least. If you like the bike otherwise, I'd
keep it for the history and early shorter chain stay specs & fitting
narrower tires from what I can see.

Well,...maybe not close to failure,...but not optimum either,..as
the tube DOES get noticeably thinner when it's used much beyond the
stated tire size. A little over and usually no problem, but in
your case some luck was involved too I think it fair to say. :-)

Hi Jim,... you forgot one :-)
..just curious what type of Handlebar wrap is that? It looks really
grippy, and I'd like to pick some up to wrap over (and build up) the rubber
grip of my Ti Rod Tactical Titanium Walking Stick for better grip. :-)

with anticipated shipping of about $15 the bars are basically $70 bucks. :-)

Well that stinks! (sorry, couldn't resist :-)
Seriously though, liberally rubbing in some Brooks Proofhide on the top
may loosen much of the offending molecules and offending olfactory
updrafts. Wait an hour or so and wipe off as much as you can with several
paper towels. Hopefully much of
