my green Quickbeam. I think they were P45s. Given that the widest tire I am
aware of fitting on a Quickbeam (also green) was 44mm, this seems correct.

I have a Roadeo waiting for paint. The claimed tire clearance for Roadeos
is 33mm (basically a Jack Brown tire) as I recall. I'm reasonably sure I
could put a 35mm tire on a relatively wide rim and make it work without
fenders.

The Ruffy Tuffys eventually encountered road hazards (a fact of life in the
San Francisco Bay Area) and we moved to 35mm Schwalbe G-Ones. Still have
lots of room. No reason to ride with fenders since rain in the drought
plagued Bay Area is as scarce as hens teeth.

I've ruled out 10 and 11 speed as I want to be able to swap wheels between
bikes and have several bikes with 9 speed setups.
And I don't care if I have a friction option. Not sure how that impacts
things unless I was interested in brifters (which I am not).

agree that differences between Toyo/Waterford frames and more recent
Maxway frames made for Rivendell have lots more to do with the design of
the bike/frame than any subtle characteristics attributed to the people who

The Schwinn Paramount at the link below looks like a Chicago built
Paramount to me. Chromed lugs, chromed fork, seat and chainstays and more
curve in the fork suggest to me it pre-dates Waterford built Paramounts
like Jock's.
