-Nic,
That's awesome, I'm glad that one worked out. I kept looking at it and as
he lowered the price it became more and more enticing. I would have bought
it but I've got several bikes that overlap with the Cheviot. I'd love to
see how you set it up if you've got pictures.

I support the Class 1 pedalecs with 20mph top speed on centuries. A century
isn't really a group ride, I've done many by myself and was passing small
groups and being passed by other small groups all day so, an ebike going by
me wouldn't seem unusual. Of course range is the limiter here, most eb
It is probably on the website and I missed it. What seatpost on the new Sam
Hillborne: 26.8 or 27.2?
Thanks

Update: I'm swapping the bars on my Salsa Fargo. Going with the VO
Granola. I can use them with stems I have on hand, just had to add brake
levers, grips and a Sram Apex flat bar shifter. Need hew cables/housing
anyway, so all-in-all the experiment won't break the bank. I'll report

Which brings up other good points about E-bikes.
We’re in the “Look out, Martha! He’ll run down the kids and scare the
horses” phase of E-bikes now, like the safety bike was in 1895.
There are currently three “classes” of E-bike in the US, and at least 4 in
the EU.
And that’s aside from people
I agree with George Schick on this one since I see increasing numbers of e
bikes on the trails generally ridden by people who wouldn't be out there,
riding much faster than I can ride, coming up fast behind me without any
sort of announcement and startling me. I don't like e bikes for that

One huge difference is a “lycra lout” as you , called them, going 25 mph may
have bad manners but he has been riding a while and probably a pretty good bike
handler.
However a newbie going even 15 miles an hour his electric bike is a danger to
everyone on the road. Including himself. When w

For some reason I feel like there is some rule of thumb like...lugged
frames are 27.2 and tigged or filet brazed or different. I am probably
wrong about that.

Albastache acquired, thank you for the replies.
Also thank you for the responses regarding the frame. As luck (good/bad?)
would have it, a few days after this post I received an email from
Rivendell that there was a 54 Hillborne in stock, and I immediately jumped
on it. Not the smartest of fina
Thanks for the insight Armand & Reginald!
I'm realizing based on the responses that my query (and poor attempt at
whimsy) read like an indictment of U-brakes, which wasn't my intention. I
was mostly curious about the different brake placement on two seemingly
identical frames, which Armand help

Believe it or not(get a life, Ryan) - I couldn't find seat post diameter
anywhere on SH specs on the RBW site or in any of the newsletter specs for
later iterations of this frame...but as a counter-example for Johnny Alien,
I do remember Leah's quest for a nicer long-setback post for her

Because I've gotten in the habit, I have kept my streak going of riding to
the top of Mount Diablo every month in 2024. My seventh month in a row was
on my seventh different bike. It was HOT, but nowhere near as bad as it
could have been. The max I saw on my Wahoo was 37C.

There you goI was completely wrong on that lugged part. :)
I will say I owned a SH back in the day and it was 27.2 BUT they could have
changed that as things have indeed changed on their bikes over the years.

A local bike industry representative recently proposed a bill to the City
of ABQ Council for blanket legal permission for all types of e-bikes along
with a 20 mph speed limit, the limit to be moral and legal, not
technological. My first reaction was, "Yeah, sure, and you will enforce

Just out of curiosity, did you have it set up as a bar-end or a
thumb-shifter or a downtube shifter?
Reason I ask: A few months ago I set up a bike with the Silver v.2 shifter
on a Paul Thumbie mount and noticed that the cable would rub on the side of
the cable hole as it entered the pod. I a
