Eric Marth asked about tubing; This one was built with Reynolds 725. Not
sure if stays/blades are the same, but that's what I was told.

And in regards to the 1up w/ a fendered bike; this was my only attempt thus
far and no issue on the 2.5 hr trip home via the interstate. I've seen
others use a pool noodle on the contact point around the rack's "arm" which
seems to add cushion yet keep the contact point tight enough to trust it.
Sold. Thanks.

How wonderful! What is our new RivSister’s name? I’m so happy to hear that
she is loving her Platypus, and I do hope you’ll tell us more as she gets
to know it. Thanks for the introduction!

Now Joe, that's just silly. Come to think of it, this whole thread is just
silly - which is probably why I keep following it ; )

It’s about to get sillier. I made a video in response to Patrick’s thread.
I’m attaching it as a link here, since it’s too big to include in the text.
I changed my Instagram to public for this, but I’ll switch it back to
private soon, so watch it before I do!

I had to respond to you in my favorite medium, Patrick. Video. I’ll include
the link below, since the file is too big. It’s on my Instagram, which I’ve
set to public for now, but hurry and watch before I switch it back to

Welcome new Riv sister. It’s easy to put on miles with the Platy.

Leah,
That video was great! I laughed, and cheered!:)
I'm 6'7" tall and weigh between 230 and 260 pounds (depending upon the
season) and am both amused and annoyed at the "how much does that bike
weigh?" and "How can you ride such a heavy bike?" comments I get when I
show up for a club
Leah: I laughed my head off. For an increasingly silly thread, you
certainly capped it all.
OTOH, I could see you struggling to lift those behemoths.
Long ago, when my daughter was 5 or 6 (she will, God willing, turn 22 in
early June), I would be horsing around and playing the fool, and she would
Just for the record -- as the one who started all this nonsense -- I don't
fret about weight, well, with one exception, below; and I weighed the
Matthews only on a momentary impulse of curiosity; the Monocog followed as
a kind of academic investigation.
In fact, I fret mildly about weight only for
Are you sure this isn’t a Long Low? I have a ‘99 JS Road Std, also with
short reach brakes (that probably maxes out between 32 and 35mm) and I
don’t recall the Road Std having any other brake option…

Ok I'll cut to the chase: What is the point of the threads? They seem to be
a shot at the Platypus on a Riv forum in favor of two non-Rivs, and frankly
they seem directed at a particular person. I've done my best to remain
unserious about the whole affair but I'm kinda stumped on what the purpos
Welcome Lacy. If, like me, you have enjoyed cycling most of your life then
that first ride on a Rivendell can be mind-blowing. I had no clue that a
bicycle could be so comfortable, functional and fun to ride!

"Shot at the Platypus ... directed at a particular person"? You live in a
universe different from mine.
"Point of the thread"? Absolutely none on my part except to spout a
momentary interest. What was your purpose in chiming in so enthusiastically?
Sheesh!

Looks like you can lower the new derailleur a tad. Have you tried that and
run into interference?

That may be the next move but I suspect it's a spindle length issue. This
FD was designed to run with an MTB double with a wide Q and 10-spd
chainrings closer together, it's not quite snapping over hard enough to the
small ring before running out of travel (limit screw all the way out). I
