Michael this looks good!
I would love a lighter tubed Hunqapillar that is slightly bigger than the
48cm I used to have!
That is also my favorite Riv color, aside from the bronze-green of their
older Cheviots.

I tried this once to simulate a three speed hub. It didn’t last long for
me. The shifting wasn’t great, because the teeth ramps didn’t align, and
the overall complexity was as a great as a 1x8, etc. that offered a lot
more range.

Would it help if the three cogs were taken from the middle of the stack so
to speak - not changing the ramp locations?

Eric's right, you're not really simplifying anything by going that route, plus
the gear range wouldn't be great. The better plan I think for 1x3 is a single
cog in back with spacers or Gear Clamps, a Paul or Shimano tensioner and a
triple front with fd. I've done it, you get nice big jumps for u
I don't understand triple rings instead of triple cogs; much easier to
shift in back than in front, and besides you get more gear ratio difference
per tooth in back than in front.
I do agree that, if you are going to use an 8 speed cassette hub, you might
as well have 8 cogs even if you don't ofte

Cheers all! The Sam is my fancy bike while the Clem is quite a budget
build - almost everything was transferred over from my modestly upgraded
vintage mtb commuter. I would prefer to trade in the XO-1 for a
knobby-tire Appaloosa build, but since that would be 4+ times the price I
could fetch
I love Rene Herse tires but I would buy a different brand for tubeless.
They seem to be more fickle than other brands for tubeless. Maybe the
endurance casing is better?
60 psi is very high for 44c, I run my 42c at 40 - 45 psi. That would be
the first adjustment I would make, personally. 48
As others have said, that sounds overly complex for simplicity. Grin. More
simple options:
1. ride your current cassette and just shift two gears at a time, or far
less frequently, whatever works for you to not think about it much.
2. convert to a single speed via ENO hub and chain tensioner. Th
I would be overjoyed to have them! I live near the UW! I can drop off a

As in the header: does anyone have any 32-hole black/silver or silver only
or perhaps red/silver SunRingle EQ 21s for sale? I am interested.
These are road-width -- 21 mm outside -- 559 rims that weigh 390 grams
each, and are perfect for my Riv Road customs.
Thanks.

That's a great looking build. As someone who spent the last few years in
Pullman, I don't blame you for giving up on the singlespeed out there.
Sounds like a tough way to ride the punchy hills and wind.

If my Hunqapillar turns out to be my forever bike, I want to get it
painted/coated black with no decals. I would probably leave the head
badge, though.

It's weird to see those familiar tubes and lugs under a glossy coat of basic
black, but I dig it. In an interesting way it almost takes the wraps off, like
the frame itself announces what it is instead of the graphics.

I understand the need for a low-key bike, but also not wanting an actual
pedestrian frame. My solution was a Clem H with a bunch of decals. This
solution looks like it must ride fantastically. I don't, however, condone
