Scot, I'd say you're on the right track. What kind of rod are you
carrying? I've carried fly rods in their own tubes hundreds of miles
with no issues. I just bolt a PVC end cap to one of the rear dropout
braze-ons, then toe strap the rod tube to the rear rack. This photo
sort of shows it in action

Sometimes damage doesn't show up right away, to yourself or the bike.
Visit a doctor asap, and document your injury. It may take a day or two to
feel all the pains.

1. File a police report.
2. Report the accident to both your own and the responsible driver's
auto insurance company. Your own may be involved under your

A sad moment to have to sell these 2 bikes. My intent originally w. my
Saluki was to do tours. This has not happened due to a number of factors.

It took a little bit of fiddling with both the rack height and the decaleur
- also I bought the tallest version of the Berthoud bag. Maybe you got a
shorter one? It's better looking to go with the taller bag, IMHO, rather
than have the rack jacked way up above the fender or the top of the bag

bike and i love them. At one time, i had two of the suntour xc-II bear
traps which i thought were the absolute best. On a long dirt ride, the

I would only add that I do not take it for granted that a pedal comes from
the factory properly put together if it uses ball bearings. If the bearings
do not feel right upon putting on the bike , double check the adjustment of
the bearings. If they are too tight or loose they won't last long !

I recommend against the Sora triples. I have owned two and both broke in
exactly the same place. The little tab that anchored the spring just sheared
off on each. Cheap, lousy and disappointing since I am usually a big of less
expensive Shimano. Meanwhile, I have a 21 year old Deore that is stil
