I'll be there on my copper Hilsen. I'm hoping we will get enough folks to
completely flood the (rather small) Free Range space! It will be bike
month, after all. Hopefully we will have all the Riv faithful, as well as
anyone just wanting to meet up and hear from someone who is willing to
cross t
One issue with frame bags is that they chafe the paint. After a short time with
a frame bag, the top tube paint will have an unevenly buffed luster. Some will
call it beausage and some will suffer indescribable anguish. Maybe some cloth
tape around the tube first?

That's great! You should write a letter to the local paper, or tv news.
Maybe they will pick it up as a human interest story with some tips about
keeping bikes safe from thieves. The thieves might even get a little
message.
Congrats!

I have an idea in my mind that frame bags should mount to bottle bosses in
the and down top tubes. You'd need to reinforce the bag edges, and you'd
need to modify the bike, but it would look cleaner, and wouldn't un-buff
the paint.

Beautiful, Forrest.
Classic Rivendell with that look that suggests the 10 speeds I remember
from the 70s. All modern parts and tires with a beautiful frame and none
of the useless trendy stuff they slap on to try to sell more bikes. Very
nice. Looks fast.
Ride and enjoy.

Did you make enough room in the garage for a new bicycle?
:-)

Very nice, especially with that special Go Fast Red paint. Everybody knows
red bikes are faster!

Can I pick three? I'm pretty far behind on indexed shifting bits. I'm
building up parent/guest bikes and want to keep it simple for the
riders. Likely they'll have either single or double chainrings and 7-8
gears in back. I found last year that friction may not be simple
enough for visiting flatlan
There's plenty of mid-range SRAM MRX twisters and Shimano RapidFire Plus on
Ebay that'll do you good. As long as they specify 7/8-speed Shimano
compatible, and you're using Shimano MTB derailers, everything will work.
If you go with SRAM X-5/7/9/0 derailers, make sure you use the SRAM
twisters
You can find NOS Shimano gripshifters (6-, 7-, or 8- speed) for 20 bucks on
Ebay. I have used them for set-ups like you want, and they work fine. I
also think gripshifters are easier for a non-biker to understand than
brifters, and they don't shift when you brake. Lots of thumbshifters

Must not have been paying close enough attention to the earlier pictures of
the new bike. I did not realize how long its chain stays are. That bike
will have a real stable, comfortable ride.
Prototype of the expensive riding jacket looks good.

It's like a Rivendell chopper. With a suicide shifter! I like it.

I have found myself in need of a rather high bar setup.
Would anyone like a Technomic Deluxe stem in 8cm or 9cm (both like
new) in trade for a dirt drop 10cm stem?
Contact me offlist if interested.
Thanks

With a rainy afternoon, decided to do some work on the SimpleOne.
Converted the rear rack to a top rack, and swapped out front cable

Also added a Campagnolo Gran Compe rear quick release. First time I've

One suggestion:
Go single chainring up front with a wide range cassette in back. Easier

Pardon me if the following list seem a bit basic, but I would check
for free movement of quick release and maybe even recondition it by
taking the internal cam mechanism apart, regreasing it and
reassembling it. It's a 5-minute job and restores smoothness in
operation.

A buddy of mine is selling his 80s Blackburn Lowrider front pannier rack on
ebay. He asked if "any of those Riv guys would be interested in a rack".
Made me laugh.
