I've ridden some non-paved roads with Marathon Dureme 700x40 on the
Sam Hillborne. They make a 700x50 that should fit an Atlantis. That
would be my first recommendation. Bigger tire. Otherwise, the
Extreme. Have a 26x2.00 on one bike. Like the tire a lot. A touch
slower, maybe, than a Suprem

BTW, this looks like a terrific deal to me. (As an objective, but imperfectly

I was; and still am, but I need cash and with the new trike (which isn't
going anywhere) there is overlap between the Fargo, the Herse and the
trike, and since my off road preference is a ss, and the Herse is such a
good bike, I thought I'd offer the Fargo.

Hey,
some dumb questions I couldn't find answers to on the interwebs:
1. what length bottom bracket spindle would go on a hilsen with a
double like the sugino alpina? 110?
2. what would it be with a triple like an xd2? 107?
3. Does anyone know how to measure a rear derailler to figure out what

I used a pair of 700x50 Marathon Duremes on a 50% off-road touring/
camping trip. They worked great on and off the road. Maybe a tiny bit
slow-ish on the road, but they surprised me with their grip in the
dirt.
Fitted on my Hunqapillar, there was still plenty of room.
best,

If it's not a "technical" single-track type offroad situation, you probably
don't need much, if any, knobbiness. If it's simply gravel roads and such,
then Marathons or Marathon Supremes should be ok.

I had them on my Atlantis and they wear like iron! No flats after
thousands of miles, and they have the right amount of tread for off
road use with nice knobs on the sidewalls, but not on the center, so
they are nice for on road use as well.

If I'm not mistaken, max cog size (27t) is the same on both Ultegra
derailleurs, but the longer cage version makes it work with a triple.

I believe 107 is for the "Quickbeam" double on Rivendells. I'm using a 113 with
a Sugino Triple on my Hilsen.

Ooh, that is something I did NOT need to know. (Let's see, I could get some
Campy brakes and Super Awesome Aero wheels to go with the porteur bars and wide
Brooks, and confuse everyone! Yeah...)

As a former Fargonaut, and having recently built up one for my
brother, I think the Fargo is an awesome bike to own, especially if
you plan to do rough road and/or loaded touring. It instills
confidence in rough situations.

You can almost always shift a bigger cog than spec. Definately with Ultegra
long cage.

Plus one for the White Ind. hubs. Have a set of wheels with WI hubs;
they're pretty and sound just right to my ears. Can't justify the extra
expense over Shimano hubs, but they add a little pizazz to the bike without
being annoying.

Another +1 for White Industries. My Saluki came with a WI M1.5 rear hub,
and a SON delux on the front, both built by Peter White. These are my first
really high-end wheels so I don't have anything similar to compare, but as
others have said, the M1.5 spins forever, it's gorgeous, it sounds nice,
Thanks. One addition: I will add to the package an almost new pair of 60 mm
Big Apple Liteskins (the folding version).
Yes, I am torn but the need for cash and the overlap make me choose the
Fargo instead of another as the one to sell.
