Yesterday was a big day on a personal level. Not only have I now
doubled my Rivendell bike ownership, but also did my first bike build
since getting back into riding four years ago.
Stopped at Hiawatha to pick up the frame and have master mechanic

Dave,
At the 2008 Five Boro ride I saw a gentleman with a beautiful mustard-
colored Bleriot with a front rack, though I could not get across to
crowd to speak with him. (Man had a beard). Is this you?

I'll second the aardvark,
I've used one in Portland for a couple of winters now.
Its a really good idea to put a bag over it when you've
got it locked up though, as the cover has a thickness
and will absorb some water.

I too ride an Atlantis and live in Brooklyn (Bay Ridge). I am out
most Saturday and Sunday mornings soon after sunrise and ride along
the Brooklyn water front, through Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay and out
to Jamaica Bay.Great views and few car traffic problems.

Thanks for the ride pics Eric.
That is an imperfect Altocumulus Standing Lenticular (ACSL), an
indicator of mountain waves in stable conditons, strong gradient winds

I use the Velox. It does have a habit of slipping forward off the
back so I run mine inside out and it stays in place. But I wouldn't
leave the bike out in the rain without additional cover.

I'd just gotten off the early flight from Seattle, headed to my office in
Mountain View, getting off 101 onto Moffett Blvd. and saw a fella on a
fenderless Rom. Can I put a name with a face?
Also, Seattle is filled with Rivendells and other nice steel bikes (as
always).

I picked up my new Quickbeam from Rivendell last week but with family

Did a shake down ride today on the bike. About 30 miles more or

doctor this morning and somewhat threatening skies prevented it. Of

Most such levers are set up that way. I've never understood why.

A while back on another thread, a fellow member mentioned that he had
put a Pitlock seatpost binder on his Heron frame by using some
creative use of washers. He even provided pictures:

We seem to have a quorum here. I suppose we really ought to organize
a NYC Riv Ride at some point. Or at least all show up at some other
ride. But no doubt coordinating our schedules is the devil in the
details...

Try something similar from Vermont Country Store. They're highly
reminiscent of those awful floral-print ones they used in the 50's,

Tough, durable and on the slightly expensive side. Chrome makes a
slightly more affordable bag that is equally bomb-proof.

Its always interesting how equipment improvements become the unfair
advantage. I've seen these equipment "races" in other sports and they
often result in some giving up because they can't complete
financially. If you ask me, I think all the bicycles should be the
same and riders should not be able
