I have had my QB for 4 years and it is the perfect city bike, trainning bike and light touring bike. It doesn't need shifty gears because the three manual gears it has are enough. I have ridden it fxed and free and even used the low gear once or twice when I had big headwinds on the ride home

What kind of Kool Stop pads are giving you grief? I have Oryx brakes up with the Eagle2's and they seem to work fine. I used a nickel on the back ends of the brakes to get an even toe-in. Under very hard braking up front there is a hint of a squeal, but under 95% of normal conditions, it's fine.

Just to add my $0.02, I run the Grand Bois Cypress on my Riv and I only get about 1K on each rear tire. Failure mode seems to be a large bulge in the tire that eventually contacts the brake bridge. Despite this, I love these tires! I do not rotate tires, I just replace the bad one. On 4/24/09,
