I'm going along with those who are saying they'd bolt those cranks on and ride. Back in the early 90's I had a Cook Bros. crankset that wouldn't quite clear the big square chainstays on my Mountain Klein. I took them to work and and had a machinist there take almost 1/4" of material off the inside

FWIW, I agree with Kelly. It isn't clear to me from the picture whether metal that actually engages the spindle has been removed, it may just be excess. I know I have at least one XD2 that seems to have a lot of metal inside there that does nothing and is poorly finished. In any case, I think th
