I have a 66 cm Quickbeam and a 66 cm Atlantis. I would agree with Mr.
Powers that the Quickbeam is not a lightweight tubeset.
Rivendell advertised the Simpleone as having 0.9/0.6/0.9 tubing all around,
and I would be surprised if the Quickbeam is any lighter.

Patrick,

If i remember correctly: typically a reynolds 753 tubeset was 757 with an 858
down tube. The 753 rivendells had a longer 7 section in the seat tube.
Reynolds 531c was slightly thicker inside with 858 and a 10710 downtube.
Reynolds 501 and some of the ishiwatta tubes where 969 in all tubes.

Anyone have the details on the tubing thickness for the 753 Road Standard?
I thought I remember hearing that its tubing was thicker than race 753, but
by how much?

Thanks. I'll continue to carry unreasonable loads. I think that I (175)
ride light.
For some years I commuted on and carried such loads (up to 40 lb, usually
20-30, rear only) on 190 gram Specialized so-called 26X 1" Turbos that
measure 22 mm on my narrow rims. I did break a couple of Revolution s
Patrick,
I wouldn't worry. I've never heard of another broken QB. Probably just bad
luck on that one (broke at base of seat tube, I'm 90% sure I remember right
on location) after years of hard use. Friend was light (< 150).
I broke a Fuji Finest at the seat tube, and I'm 145. Sometimes it's just
Does anyone know what thicknesses are for 531C? I ask because I owned a '89
Falcon made of that, not to mention a very whippy Orbit tandem also made of
it.
I think I am right in saying that SL is 8-5-8.

Also, if your friend had load problems with 9-6-9, how much did *he* weigh?
I carry largish loads on the Ram and God forbid

Maybe Riv will chime in, but it's fun to just make stuff up in the
meantime! My memory says the 'beam was slotted more between Atlantis &
Ram/Rom with 9-6-9 main tubes (vs 8-5-8 on Ram/Rom) but lighter stays and
fork. Clearances were also in between. The 'beam was also unique in being

Owning one I don't believe it is the second lightest tube set. It is pretty
heavy for what it is (still its my most ridden bike). Maybe it is the set up I
have on it that makes me believe that, 32 mm tires, generator hub, fenders and
a rack. Still, I think my Rambouillet is lighter and for sur
Going by memory, I think I kind of cheated that stat: Roadeo and Legolas with
the lightest, Quickbeam and A. Homer Hilsen with the next lightest.

What has the lightest, Roadeo or Legolas, or is that a tie?
Also, I'm guessing that we're talking just the production models that have
unique model names. Could a road standard from the 90's have used the lightest
tubing?

That makes sense, Jim. Thank you. I imagine the Riv. folks were more
referencing what they currently offer for comparison than giving an actual
pedigree.
With abandon,

It was designed when the Rambouillet was going strong, long before the Sam and
Roadeo ever existed. When I got my QB in 2004 I was told that its geometry is
very similar to the Ram, and it is. I've always thought of the bike as
Rambouillet-like.
I've never been able to directly compare mine to
