I thought that too, which is why I suggested the perhaps far fetched
solution of getting rid of the D ring screws and replacing them with
allen-head screws.

screws, not the screws themselves rattling loose (though that's a common
problem).
Nash-- I suggest some insulating material on the D-rings:
- Plasti-dip?
- Maybe you could wedge a leather washer around the adjustmen
This suggestion might be far fetched, but just in case: when I was using
Silvers mounted on bar end pods, and when the bolts (I assume you meant
"bolts" and not "nuts") with the rings kept loosening, as they do, I
replaced them with allen head bolts and kept them snug with blue Loctite.
