Someone else pointed me to the Euxstar shoes that can be either SPD or clips
and straps. IIRC about $100 ordered from England.

I bought a pair of Lake MX101 mountain biking shoes a few years ago on
closeout. Bought them 2 sizes big and wear them in the winter with thick wool
socks. Recommend these shoes if you can find them.
