I used a hacksaw, then a fine file, and then finished off with very
fine sandpaper (I think it was 400, then 600, then 1000 grit). The
material is soft and with very little work I as able to achieve the
same rounded-end look as the original uncut end.

Hi Mike,
The rack struts on a Mark's rack are made from solid aluminium. The
cutting tool shown in your link is intended for tubular stock, and
mostly copper at that. A hack saw will work much more effectively to
cut the length. From there, if you're anywhere near as anal as I am,
you can file th
I'm not at home right now, so I can't look and be absolutely certain,
but I think those struts are solid aluminum, right? That tubing
cutter is really only for thin walled tubes. You could probably get
one cheaper in the plumbing area of any hardware store. If you're
going to buy something, I'd
If the struts are tubular, then this will work. Every hardware store on the
planet carries them, and they're cheap so don't mail order one; or you could
just figure out how long you need them to be and have the LBS cut 'em off for
you for less than the cost of buying tools.
