like very thick and tough tape. At the time I was thinking that 16mm might
be too narrow, but after reading your info, I think it is fine. Any wider

You simply have single wall Velocity rims (as opposed to double-wall or
'hollow') rims. These are not peculiar to 650B rims - Velocity (and most
other rim makers) also make them in 700C and many other sizes. On a
recessed spoke nipple rim (as the double wall are) you need the tape to
