I did the same thing on a nail hole in a pasella, except I only used
duct tape; it worked fine. After all you are only trying to keep the
slit from spreading; not hold air like a tube.

i've dabbed in some "liquid nails" and had good results plugging holes with
that.. the benefit of LN is that it dries and stays somewhat flexible - but you
cannot use the tire for 3-4 days while it's fully curing or it'll just crack.

If the tread is all there (no chunks missing), I've used a dab of
cyanoacrylate glue to close up the tread and a boot/patch inside the
tire with no problems. As Jim said, watch for bulges.
