Hi Rene - I ran my shimano 7 speed hub with a re-spaced cassette using my 9 speed Campy brifters. No shiftmate necessary. I think your 8 speed setup could work just as well. The Campy spacing is 3.0mm for 9 speed. Just unassemble your cassette and replace the spacers. I got mine from Loose Scr
