rather than "dust" beneath the paint it may be "rust". I meant to

It's original. I've spoken to Richard Schwinn and he went to great
lengths to let me know how different things are now paint-wise as
opposed to then.
You haven't seen them all, I've seen many other than the minty blue.
Rivendell offered these in lots of colors.
