A good rule of thumb for tire width WRT to INSIDE Rim Width, IRW:
ROAD:
1.4 to 2/2.5 times IRW so for a rim with inside width of 17mm: Tires
of 24mm - 35/42mm or so. Brake and QR release will temper max tire
width choice for easy tire removal.
