Thanks Peter. Do you know how well the Viva wears not shellacked? If you look at the picture of my Trek the green is even darker like the Green Grips: http://www.greengrips.org/ecofriendly_handlebar_tape.php I thought the very dark green would work well with the brighter metallic of my Mercian. D

Another option for dark green cotton tape is Viva/Toshi. They have a dark, piney green that has a slightly blue cast, much like evergreen needles. I grabbed the last few rolls Riv had when they closed out the Viva tape in favor of Newbaums, to add to my hoard. Jitensha in Berkeley still carries
