Yeah, the sizing issue for me comes from floor living, which requires greater
range of motion than cycling. In pre-made knickers I have to size up the waist

I have to cinch down way too much fabric at the waist. I’m
Patrick: Please do share what you learn about custom wool plus 4s or

And thanks for the Compass Knickers review. I'd held off because of their

Shoji, et al ... One of my pairs of Compass knickers pilled significantly after
just two weeks of riding in them. I was informed that this is expected and
normal wear. So, that answer has changed from February.

This is good to know ... Agree that for cycling pants, you want a waist at
real waist height. While my home-made knickers are not ideal as to features
or fabric (I'm sure the I Magnin flannels will pill and wear easily, now
that I have them altered to really fit) they do have natural waists.

I love my Compass Knickers except I bought them when the pocket openings
were very small and I have to fish things out of my pocket with my fingers.
They since have fixed that issue.
I bought two Snoqualmie Pass tires and one arrived with an area across the

Great question, Lum. How much of an answer do you want? Ready? Duck! Grin.
For me, pants create a lot of fabric motion on the leg, which most people never
notice, but which adds to the “noise” my brain has to cut through to function
in the world. Shorts, less so, but can easily be more than knic
Why knickers and not something like MUSA long pants? I would think full leg

Shoji, I just spoke with Theo at Compass and asked about the pilling. He said
they’d take care of me if that happened, that it shouldn’t and he knows of two
pair that happened with. Sounds like the great customer service I’ve
experienced before with Compass (and Riv).

Shoji, Garth is right, the actual measurement is part of my question
(manufactures often make people feel good by shifting the size of their waist:
“Wow! In XYZ jeans, Im a 34, not a 38! I’ll buy XYZ” But another aspect is the

Forgive me for "budding" in, but DP is referring to the actual waist
measurement. Just for some FYI , in the garment industry the designers call it
the "garment waist" or some may just say "actual". With the garment laid flat,
measured about 1" below the very top of the waist fabric. Many manufa
Hi Patrick,
I wear 30 in most pants, and 30 Compass knickers fit as expected.
I'm not sure I understand the real waist vs hips question.
As for heartiness: I've been disappointed with the knickers. They started
to pill along the upper thighs after only a few rides. I wear wool upper
