Although the chain looks fine, I stopped by my LBS and picked up
another chain. $24 is cheap insurance and well worth my peace of
mind. Now I know exactly how long to break the new chain!

I've made similar foul-ups whilst installing SRAM chains. If you can cleanly
reassemble the bits to the length you need, you shouldn't have a problem.
Shimano chains are less forgiving.
