Always glad to read another blog post, Hugh, however tardy! But regarding PL23s: I can attest to the difficulties of getting tires on and off them -- I just replaced my 26" tubes with 27.5" ones over the weekend on my 1st-gen PL23 rims; the Hetres seat perfectly once installed, but what a PITA
